  • I used the Bixi bikes in Montreal recently, which seem to be be basically the same.  They're pretty gruelling up hills but not too bad on the flat.  In Montreal there seems to be a station on almost every corner, which makes them ideal for flitting about town.  They are aimed mainly at commuters there though, with a pricing scheme that discourages tourists and casual weekenders from using them for extended periods, which is a shame.  Not sure how they are working in London.  Also, in Montreal you don't need to be a member, which I believe is soon to be an option here too...
